We conducted a critical project review and instructed the design team and contractor on the £110m high explosive fabrication facility, to achieve a 20% reduction in construction cost and schedule.
The Atomic Weapons Establishment is responsible for delivering the Trident Missile programme on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, with Project Circinus, a high explosive fabrication facility, critical to the delivery of the programme. With our appointment and during a presentation of the final structural blast design, we questioned the constructability of the proposed solution.
The Business therefore needed to be reassured that the project remained feasible and was able to continue within budget and schedule.
We led a thorough review of the project design and procurement, recommending an alternative design solution with a relaxation in the client’s requirements and a change to the procurement strategy.
The project programme was re-base lined with our directing the new design team and contractor to achieve a 20% reduction in construction cost and schedule and restore Business confidence in a successful project outcome.
“Richard reported to me on a major programme for AWE as SPM delivering one of the high value and complex projects in very challenging times. I always felt assured that he had grasped the challenges that we faced and had the solutions for resolving them. I respect him and know he focuses on things that get’s results.”
